EDU 615 - Diversity and English Language Learners

This course explores diversity in education, addressing visible and less visible differences, gender bias, and social responsibility while providing the tools to create inclusive, responsive educational environments. Students will delve deeply into the demographic statistics for adapting to cultural changes, language acquisition components, and English Language Learner (ELL) challenges. Utilizing the SIOP model and cooperative learning, the course unpacks instruction and literacy, emphasizing practical strategies for active academic vocabulary, effective reading programs, and ELL academic writing proficiency. This course requires a school-based field experience.
